The domestic cat, also referred to as house cat, is a distinct feline that is known as a small predatory and carnivorous species of mammal. Domestic cats are valued very highly by people as they are wonderful companions and pets.

Domestic cats or house cats also excel in their ability to hunt vermin and many other household pests. The domestic cat has been associated with humans as pets and companions for an estimated 9,500 years.

Known to be a hunter of over 1,000 species of different animals for food, domestic cats are actually very skilled predators and hunters. Domestic cats are also well known for their ability to comprehend and learn to operate how to use or manipulate many simple types of mechanisms.

One of the most famous of these mechanisms that cats have been known to be able to handle in many different households are door knobs and toilet flushes.

There are many different breeds of domesticated house cats, mostly bred by professional breeders in order to have different types of pet cats that look and act in different manners.

Some of the more popular breeds of domestic cats include the elegant Siamese cat, the contemplative Angora, the beautiful Persian, and the common and mischievous Tabby cat.

Cat Breeds

Domestic house cats have been made pets by many humans since the early beginnings of human civilization. Cats are wonderful companions, make great family pets, and provide much entertainment with their frolic and play.

As companions and pets, there have been many different breeds of cats that have emerged over the course of time. The different breeds of cats vary in how they look, how they act, function, as well as many other characteristics such as their coat color, coat texture, eye color, and even length of their feet.

One of the more popular breeds of cats is the Persian cat. The Persian cat is considered as one of the first and oldest breeds of domestic cats.

Also known as the Longhair, or Persian Longhair in Britain, the Persian cat was first imported from Persia to Italy by a man known as Pietro della Valle in 1620.

Another popular cat breed is the Abyssinian. The Abyssinian cat is believed to have originated from an Egyptian female kitten called Zulu that was nabbed from Alexandria, Egypt by a soldier from Britain and eventually brought to England. This theory though is still yet to be determined true.

The Siamese cat is one of the most popular cat breeds of all time. It is also one of the most distinct and recognizable breeds of cats classified as Oriental cats. The exact origins of the Siamese cat still remain unknown today, but is believed to have come from Southeast Asia.
